In the heart of autumn we gather once again amidst torrential rains and cold gusts of wind under the leaden sky looming over the city. Welcome to the second edition of Black Earth Festival.
EMPTINESS (avant-garde black metal – Belgium)
Their burning vision to delve deep into darkness is paired with an artistic approach to different musical styles such as black metal, ambient soundscapes and eerie power electronics. Open minded, and driven by continuous experimentation, Emptiness are pushing the boundaries of tenebrous Black Metal atmospherics.
Fistula (sludgecore – USA) exclusive dutch show!
Impossible to categorize, combining elements of remedial sludge, hardcore and a proverbial “bad case of the Mondays.” Two decades of ear bleeding, Fistula remain the miserable kings of sludgecore.
Cult of Occult (Occult doom/blackened sludge – France)
This misanthropic force fed by hatred, loudness and alcohol, will destroy everything on its way with its unwavering wall of sound. The tracks of their new album, “Anti Life”, spread the evil sound of the extermination of life. Come dance with us on heavy riffing and worship the soundtrack of the end of days.
Father Murphy (occult psychedelia/dark folk – Italy)
It is a man´s journey, from devotee to heretic, told and chanted through the avant-garde musical approach of the Italian Occult Duo of Freddy Murphy and Chiara Lee. Their last album and last chapter of Father Murphy is a true Requiem Mass for the Dead. The mystical sound of Catholic rituals, field recording, creepy drones, chamber music and choral work, both angelic and demonic, give life and death, to a unique experience that will send shivers down your spine.
Grime (sludge metal- Italy) exclusive dutch show!
Their sound is rooted in rotten burial ground and their songs are the sound of a decaying swamp filled with trash. Their slow and heavy groove is filthy and vicious, guitar riffs are sharp and covered with rust, drums and bass hit with the unstoppable power of a mud avalanche.
Gnaw Their Tongues (black metal/noise/experimental – NL) is a form of catharsis or an immersion into the nasty side of human existence. Unwholesome screaming that channels powerful demons over and among the unstoppable violence of the music. His disturbing wall of noise that refuses structure and melody will drop you, all alone, in an horrifying soundscape of beauty.
Terzij de Horde (vitalistic black metal – Netherlands) combine an amalgam of progressive black and doom metal with a rawness and live presence reminiscent of extreme hardcore or chaotic screamo. The band has received widespread international attention and many very positive reviews both of their recorded music and of their explosive live performances.
Dirt Forge (sludgecore – Denmark)
They do a great job of combining hardcore elements with sludgy heaviness and Sabbath style riffs.
Sūrya (sludge/post-metal – UK)
Their music is a mix of heaviness and subtle sonic landscapes, ugliness and beauty. Earth, Water, Air and Fire – all in it’s eternal dance of creation and destruction. Sūrya is about bringing light through understanding the darkness.
BlackMoon1348 (industrial-tibetan-drone – UK) are a 4-piece Sonic Art project like nothing you have experienced before. In 2017 a mesmerizing tour with the Tibetan monks of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery- Tibet/ India, consecrates a ” first of its kind” collaboration / celebration of cultural diversity in the arts . In 2018 Liberation Through Hearing was born, a ritual of Industrial-Tibetan-Drone, projection mapping, draped in ceremonial robes and blood red lights to create an immense immersive sonic annihilation.
Bethmoora (sludge/doom – Denmark)
From the darkest depths of Copenhagen comes the sludgy doom monster that is Bethmoora. Huge riffs, bludgeoning rhythm with seriously disturbing vocals. If you like your doom from the dark side, this is for you.
Prisa Mata (stoner/doom – London)
This power trio will bring you big fuzzy riffs, humongous grooves and pulverizing bass frequencies.
Uncanny Valley (UK) have been gestating since 2015. Inspired by the uncertain space between machine learning and human error they combine live electronics with drums and metallic percussion, flooding the dance floor with crushing ambient and rapid live EBM.
Slowwalker (electronic/shoegaze – Utrecht)
It is a new band by Eelco Bosman and Henk Hop. Both known from bands like Headcollision and 78rpm and Eelco from The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble.
There has always been a desire to combine guitars and electronica to create a story/atmosphere with every track. Slowly building, creating swirling walls of sound, only to be broken down to a soft melody.
